<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Tomorrow (5.7.13) I have an interview with Mr. James Mac Devitt for the Art Exhibition. If they have time, I would love to try and get an interview with the first and third place winners of the exhibition. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First Place was Sonia Hernandez and Sylvester Duke Givens was third place. Those are the people the Talon Marks reporter Marco Zepeda interviewed. Hopefully with my multimedia background from this semester I will be able to get some creative output to this final project. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Interviewing Mac Devitt should get some good publicity the Talon Marks Newspaper always welcomes. If I am not able to get a hold of the winners I hope that another artist would be willing to talk about their experiences at Cerritos College Art Department and how they have invested their creativity into their art. After all, Art should never be judged as good, bad, better, or more tasteful over another. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We all interpret life in a different way so who is to judge those who did not win? I am more than happy to get a student who did not win, their work showcased in the newspaper. What someone finds ugly another finds inspiring and beautiful. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today is an exciting day for me because today is the day I am going to meet up with the reporter from Talon Marks to get our report together on the Art Department graduates going to transfer or finish their degree in the field of artistry. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">More to come on a later date. Nothing else to report on now! </span><br />

<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Its about that time. The end of the semester and our final project is here! I can't believe its almost done. Unfortunately our culinary arts video did not turn out the way my group and I were hoping for.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">After we finished interviewing Chef Pierini and started importing our video onto iMovie we noticed that the student who previously used our camera did not erase footage they previously recorded. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Almost 15 minutes of our 25 minute video was completely unusable and destroyed. This was the heart of our interview that was completely gone. So, we had to use what we could with what we got. With a frustrating few days ahead of us we got it done and to be honest, it was not too bad. There are some awkward pauses and some bad editing on our part and due in part to the poor quality of the video but in spite of our challenges we got it done and within the time frame that Mr. Cameron wanted it to be. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>FINAL PROJECT: TALON MARKS REPORTER & MULTIMEDIA REPORTER </b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Our final project for the semester will be working with a student from a different class. We will be working with the Talon Marks reporter from the newspaper class on a feature story for the end of the semester. It is a really nice bow tie finish for this class. Next semester I will be in the Talon Marks Newspaper so this will give me a taste of what I will be getting myself into. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am not sure who the reporter is that I will be working with but I will be working on a feature story of the Art Department at Cerritos College. I will be bringing a Multimedia perspective to his story in the paper. I am thinking of a slide show video for this project so that we can feature every artist in the department without having to cut anyone out. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Perhaps we can interview an instructor and a student who will be graduating or transferring to an Art Institute or University pursuing an art degree. Feature their work and it can give me the creative outlook I have been craving all semester to do. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">More updates to come on this project. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>SLIDESHOW PROJECT </b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I apologize for the delay but I never put my final slideshow project up to see. I have to say I am particularly proud of this turnout for this slide show. I hope you find Pedro's story as powerful and moving as I do. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Its a simple matter. What we have all learned in class and in doing class projects and experiments is that we learned to update our potential readers and followers with a Twitter account. Did you know that Bill Clinton just got one? Until just recently he has not been apart of the multimedia web users and journalists unofficial club. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">He talked with C</span><span style="font-family: Arial;">omedy Centrals Stephen Colbert on April 6th at the <a href="http://www.clintonglobalinitiative.org/" target="_blank">Clinton Global Initiative</a> that he did not have a <a href="http://www.twitter.com/" target="_blank">Twitter</a> account and only facebooked and text. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><em></em></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><em>Colbert announced that he had set up a Twitter account for the nation’s 42nd president, saying that because more obvious handles were taken, he had chosen @PrezBillyJeff.</em></span><br />
<em><span style="font-family: Arial;">(Los Angeles Times by Seema Mehta <a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-clinton-takes-to-twitter-20130424,0,4699018.story" target="_blank">click here for full article</a>) </span></em><br />
<em><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></em><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">It is nice to know that we are not all on the same page with constant updates in the cyber world. Even former Presidents of the free nation do not keep up with the modern age. If you would like to follower Bill Clinton on twitter, it is now possible! <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Click <a href="https://twitter.com/billclinton" target="_blank">@billclinton</a></span> to follow former President Bill Clinton on Twitter. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>UPDATE ON INTERVIEW WITH CHEF PIERE & FILM STOCK FOOTAGE OF CULINARY SCHOOL AT CERRITOS COLLEGE</strong></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Yesterday <a href="http://mcsjournals.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Michael</a> and I went to film stock footage of the culinary department at Cerritos College. Unfortunately <a href="http://mr-hodge.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Anthony</a> was unable to make it due to an exam he had at the time. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">What I learned about filming the culinary students was something as a bit of surprise for me. No one liked us being there. In fact, more than twice we were almost kicked out. This could be due in part to the recent health inspection rating the kitchen got a week or so ago. They are a B rated restaurant due to a possum getting into the kitchen. How did this happen? Good question. I would assume that the kitchen is quiet clean and from personal experience of visiting the kitchen and the department they are all quite clean. This could have been a simple mishap of a student leaving the door open at night or a window. That is all it takes for an animal looking for food and shelter needs. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Michael and I wanted to interview some students and ask them about their experience at the culinary department, how much they have learned, and what they expect to achieve with their culinary certificate. Myself and Michael did not personally feel it was a good idea. After some negative encounters with more than two students we agreed it was best to get our filming done and leave them alone. Although, after leaving I regretted this. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Being a journalist requires you to make people feel uncomfortable sometimes. Not everyone can feel cordial and comfortable when trying to get facts that may be hidden to the public. It is my job to get the truth and to get the story even if that means being put in an uncomfortable position. Next time, I will push the envelope. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Today (4.25.13) My group and I will be interviewing Chef Piere and asking him a few questions regarding his position at the culinary department, what he offers, and his background in the culinary world. The interview is at 12:00 and will last perhaps 30 minutes. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thursday my group have made an appointment with Chef Michael Peirini to interview him on film for our group project. We are going to ask him about his background in the culinary field, discuss his program at the school and the reputation he has built. We are very excited! </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tonight I will be filming some footage from a city council convention that will be here at Cerritos College in the auditorium today (Tuesday 4/23) at 4:00pm. </span></div>

Pedro. He is a labor worker in the Labor Work Area on the 133 highway in Laguna

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mark Mazzetti is a New York Times journalist that investigates government operations in the CIA during wartime. He just recently came out with a new book called <i>THE WAY OF THE KNIFE </i>which is about post 9/11 CIA spy operations and assassinations. The way the government conducts their wars. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I just briefly wanted to discuss the topic of Mark Mazzetti. He is a great example of a multimedia Journalist because he does investigative journalism, he writes books, publications, won the Pulitzer award for his investigative journalism and expertise in CIA operations. You can follow him on <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkMazzettiNYT" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, read his articles on the New York Times, read his blogs, and read his books. He is constantly updating the news that he covers and he is good at what he does. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There is a big misconception of Journalists today that they are liberal and skew the news in order to get a big reaction out of the public when that is really not the case. These people care about bringing the news to the public that no one might know about. Its about connecting with people and taking risks in order to expose the truth that can sometimes be ugly. Journalists carry a tough burden of being the messenger, they must be unbiased in their work, they must report nothing but the truth, and they must do this in a quick, smart, and timely manner. News five minutes ago is old news. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Mark Mazzetti talks about what the CIA is like pre and post 9/11. What president Ford signed in order to stop assassinations. The CIA issued drone attacks on allied countries they had close relations to in order to capture targeted suspects of Al Qaeda. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The book has just been released, I have it coming to me in the mail and I would highly suggest it for any of my fellow classmates to read. I will update everyone when it arrives and the details the book makes in this extremely controversial topic of how the American Government conducts their business behind the scenes. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Everyday I try to keep up on the current news to understand what is going on in the world and better understand journalism and what its all about. Articles are great to read because sometimes reading something gives you a better understanding then just listening to someones words. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">If a reader is listening to a video or a podcast he/she may misinterpret what the newscastor was saying and through word of mouth may have a complete misunderstanding of the news he/she just watched. Words can be powerful and less misunderstood by a reader. Although this is true, hearing someones story, looking at their photographs, and watching in motion of events that occur brings people closer together and a connection can be made between the reader, the journalist, and what message they are portraying. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">A good example of this is the current project I am working on with my group called <strong>SOUNDLISDES SHOW </strong>this project, as I stated before is a recorded interview with a person who has an interesting job and who can tell their story and how they got to that particular career choice. Myself and my group went to Laguna Beach and interviewed two people so that we can chose which person we thought interviewed the best and who we decided to use in our presentation. My group felt the first interview we did was the most powerful and will have the biggest impact on its viewers as it did to us. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This emotion I hope viewers (my classmates) will get from this slideshow presentation will impact them as much as it did me and my group. This same emotion is what I felt watching just 25 seconds of the beginning of a video clip by the news segment <a href="http://www.democracynow.org/"><em><strong>DEMOCRACY NOW</strong></em>!</a><u></u></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">within those first few seconds of the introduction I saw horrific animal curelty done to pigs, cows, and chickens in farms across the nation. Something we as American consumers never have to think about, how the animals are treated right before they are taken to slaughter houses. For those 25 seconds I did want to become a vegetarian...just for those seconds! </span><br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDLp6t6qLk7-0I61CqF7xD8Z4m81Kz99kHhyHeW4X3QKtQgMpZWzILEAxdZIuCL-tFFMVH3NidQSr584XYdXLPgKAGXFpusaebZ2KjKh1y-C5DexcvobkGJm-YexGdIN9UdpGWqcU8OahW/s1600/NEW-Abused_Pig-4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDLp6t6qLk7-0I61CqF7xD8Z4m81Kz99kHhyHeW4X3QKtQgMpZWzILEAxdZIuCL-tFFMVH3NidQSr584XYdXLPgKAGXFpusaebZ2KjKh1y-C5DexcvobkGJm-YexGdIN9UdpGWqcU8OahW/s1600/NEW-Abused_Pig-4.png" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">The news segment today was just the example of the project we are working on in class. It is meant to shock you and perhaps open the viewers eyes to something they never knew exisited, or never gave much thought before. Our actions have consequences and its a journalists job to expose that to mass audiences and remind us all that we can make a difference in our own society and cultural way of life. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">In case you were curious about the news segment I discussed, here is a shortcut to Democracy Now! as of today: April 9th 2013</span><br />
<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today was the most rewarding day I have had in all my life. I always knew no matter what I wanted to do with my life I always wanted to help people. Yesterday, we were given an assignment to go out and interview someone with an interesting job. My team and I had a few ideas. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I immediately thought of something that I have always wanted to do. Since I can remember I have always wanted to interview and talk with illegal immigrants and tell there story. Ask questions that maybe no one has asked in the past. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Another idea of someone to interview came from a personal past. I work across the street from a shelter called "The friendship Shelter" and in a previous attempt to help a loved one get into the shelter I talked to the leading psychologist. She was kind, clam, and very kind. I would have loved the chance to get to talk to her more and to interview her about her daily life and her life. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Our third idea was going to an elderly community and getting someones story. There are a lot of elderly people that have an amazing story to tell. Some people have lived somewhat normal lives and gone through normal struggle. But theres always one person, a veteran, a detective, a firefighter, an activist, living out their days and no one knowing what they have gone though. I would love to tell their story. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, today we got two out of our three interviews done. We talked with a man who wanted to be anonymous because he was an undocumented worker. His life story was tragic and heartbreaking. Something that will be edited and heard for people to know the struggle most of these people endure everyday. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second interview my group and I were able to interview a woman who was a counselor for a homeless shelter for homeless adults. We asked her what compelled her to help people and the stories and amount of people she has helped. Her job was hard but rewarding and she truly felt that she was making a big difference peoples lives but most of all, her life. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There is a lot more to come after this. Expect updates. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04319594445598106922noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4606697864912212690.post-59828340095921206852013-04-02T12:26:00.002-07:002013-04-02T12:26:25.215-07:00<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">BASSEM YOUSSEF & MULTIMEDIA REPORTING FREEDOMS IN THE USA</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">It has been a while since I have blogged last. For that, I apologize. My interview with Professor Rigby was very suceessful and I am going to try and get my short interview presentation online as well as the full interview (which is very interesting) here as well. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I wanted to discuss this hot topic that is circulating around the world right now. Bassem Youssef's arrest by Egyptian President <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Morsi">Mohamed Morsi</a> for making satiric jokes about the presidents rule and authority of Egypt. This is a very big deal for Egypt and for the world to witness the critical situation that is happening in Egypt. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Bassem Youssef is a political satirist and conducts his show in a comedic backdrop that discusses the hot button issues going on in his country. He is often compaired to Jon Stwart and he is a highly favored comedian in Egypt. He stands for the political activists, bloggers, and reporters in Egypt being persecuted by the Egyptian government for speaking out about their surpression. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">You can find the full report on every major news station and multimedia website but my main source for this information has come directly from the Los Angeles Times. To see the full report, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Morsi">click here</a>. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The comedian was arrested and interrigated Sunday for almost 10 hours about his latest show that pokes fun at the president. He is accused of insulting Islam as well, these accusations made against Youssef are misleading and the citizens of Egypt are outraged by the authorities arrest against him. What seemed like thousands of Youssef's supporters were outside the jailhouse shouting for his release. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Youssef's opinion on the interregation against him</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> are<em> "We are not the ones who insult religion," Youssef told a TV station Saturday. "All we do is expose the channels that have misused religion and harmed it more than anyone else. If there is anyone who has insulted religion, it is those who use Islam as a weapon for political reasons."</em> (LATIMES REPORT)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial;">WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MULTIMEDIA REPORTING</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I brought up this topic for several reasons. It is a hot topic issue right now and it is known throughout the world, there are more updates to come from this, and Bassem Youssef is a political activist. He in a way is a multimedia reporter because he reports on the news within his country, his delivery of the message may be different, but that is the beauty of the multimedia world. It is a means to dilver the news through different outlets. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This situation that has happened has made me realize my personal freedoms as an aspiring reporter. I sometimes have to remember how greatful I am for being a United States citizen. It means that I can write about anything I want and my rights are protected under the constiution. This is something we all know, its not news. But to someone like Bassem Youssef who is being persecuted for his words really makes one think about the things we can sometimes take for granted. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">In developing countries like Egypt, freedom of speech is not a privilage they have. There are poeple that fight for that right when we as Americans don't even think about it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tomorrow I will be interviewing the cultural anthropology professor at Cerritos College about the upcoming trip to Japan in the spring of 2014. I am really excited to get this interview because I have been very interested in joining the group and since it is open to anyone it will be a great way to get people involved. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Professor Rigby has been all around the world and every day he has a story he hasn't told his class about an adventure he has been on in a different country. He calls himself the "Gentle Giant" and makes his students feel safe in even sometimes dangerous situations they might be in. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">He has been to countries like...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Trobriand Islands</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">South Africa</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Brazil & the Amazon </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Papa New Guine </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Peru</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Those are just a few of possibly dozens of country's he has been in. I will be asking him questions of when, where, why, and how students can afford to travel abroad in the safest, friendliest, and cheapest environment. Ask for more information about his upcoming trip to Japan, and possibly the scariest situation he has been in while traveling and studying as a Cultural Anthropologist. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>IN OTHER NEWS...VOICE RECORDING ANNOUNCED TODAY</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today we reviewed everyone's recordings and we heard some great reviews and some that perhaps needed a little more practice. Everyone did a great job overall and I felt a little better knowing I was not the only nervous nanny in the bunch. A felt like I had a bigger advantage over my peers because I chose to record everything in class. I was really embarrassed but because my recording was done with a nice recorder I had the clearest sounding voice. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Although, my podcast was not the best. There were a lot of errors in it. For instance, I spoke too much in the beginning and introduced too much of what was going to be played rather than just letting it flow more. Professor Cameron liked that I gave a historical background of Stevie Ray Vaughn but perhaps it could have been broken up a little better with more music. Although I did have long intervals of music, it should have been edited better. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With more practice and with my second chance to do an interview with Professor Rigby, I think I will rock it! I am very excited to see how my interview turns out with him. </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04319594445598106922noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4606697864912212690.post-80341498641359171612013-03-14T13:18:00.001-07:002013-03-14T13:18:20.247-07:00<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-large;">INTERVIEW WITH A CERRITOS COLLEGE PROFESSOR & STUDENT</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is our job as multimedia journalists to report news through all kinds of venus. That includes writing, blogging, breaking news updates, interactive presentations, film shorts, and interview those experts on the subject matter of our focus. Professor Cameron gave us an assignment to interview and record an expert on any subject that has to do with Cerritos College. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I decided to interview Professor Hirohama on the exciting new AA film Degree that is now offered at Cerritos. Although, Mr. Hirohama will not be available for the interview. I was disappointed to here that. So, I need to find a new expert to interview! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have only a couple people I can think of to interview. But no students. I need to do some research. One possibility I do have to interview would be the Professor Anthropologist I discussed in Monday's blog. Professor Rigby. I may interview him about his trip to Japan next year and how to get some students involved in the trip! Maybe some traveler's guides tips for students on a budget but wanting to travel abroad. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">More on this to come! </span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04319594445598106922noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4606697864912212690.post-71883694851131220342013-03-12T10:47:00.000-07:002013-03-12T14:06:07.244-07:00<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">CERRITOS COLLEGE UPDATES AND MISCELLANEOUS </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It has been a while since I have given any specific updates about Cerritos College and multimedia journalism updates. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is going to look like delicious scrambled eggs with toasted bread and a tall glass of orange juice. Are your ready? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>CERRITOS COLLEGE ANTHROPOLOGY DEPARTMENT</b></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidKl_99lBeJm55EdvgcPqvLQ6zITBmki1BIjKzr_P8Nc0lorjYnDnKXpVV5bcVoWVKR0PnkdIQj5SbQLLOi1ed8b8KW21gvHhONnhpBsCqLAHunTtrJtsE4uCZ2IqwGMlgtpeBBXpRz6iV/s1600/419926_416412811741321_97650397_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="118" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidKl_99lBeJm55EdvgcPqvLQ6zITBmki1BIjKzr_P8Nc0lorjYnDnKXpVV5bcVoWVKR0PnkdIQj5SbQLLOi1ed8b8KW21gvHhONnhpBsCqLAHunTtrJtsE4uCZ2IqwGMlgtpeBBXpRz6iV/s320/419926_416412811741321_97650397_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Did you know Cerritos College has an Anthropology club? Its true. We have a great professor leading all the meetings. His name is Professor Rigby. He is a renowned Cultural Anthropologist. He has traveled all over the world and comes from a family of Anthropology. This man knows his stuff. He gives great lectures and has a candy dish full of great stories and packs you with organized information giving detailed historic background of cultures, places, traditions, and explanations for society throughout the cultural world both Western and primitive. To put it bluntly, you will be missing out on a great semester if you don't take at least one of his classes. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Great news! Professor Rigby will be taking a group of students to Japan next year. It is open to all who want to join with some exceptions (no minors or trouble makers). You don't have to be taking an anthropology class or be in the club, although an interest in the subject might enhance your experience. I doubt Rigby will be hitting the bars every night. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>CERRITOS COLLEGE FILM & PRODUCTION DEGREE APPROVED</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I would personally like to applaud those of you who are going for a film major. Its not an easy field to break into and it requires drive and passion. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A formal congratulations to Cerritos College film majors, now you get the chance to get your AA degree in Film. Just a simpler step forward to your dreams. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is true, the California Chancellors office approved the Cerritos College Film Degree. This is a major step for Cerritos College and for students all over Long Beach county. When local community colleges and even Cali State schools are getting major budget cuts and shutting down whole departments (like Long Beach City College shutting down their nursing program).</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Cerritos College stays strong and treads though the tough times and even comes out on top with this new Film Degree offering. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its a beacon of hope that although times are hard it is not impossible to do what you love. </span><br />

You might ask yourself what this has to do with multimedia reporting, cerritos college, or the city itself? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, it has a lot to do with all of them. First off, California has the largest population of Catholics than any state in the entire U.S. What does that mean for Cerritos College students? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The demographics of Cerritos College are likely to amount to a large portion of Catholics attending the college. The new leader of their faith is being decided and contemplated in the Vatican Conclave just as I am typing these words. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
The fate of the religion hangs like a calm before a great storm that can bring either peace or destruction. There has been a lot of huss and fuss about St. Malachy's medieval prophecy. The ending of <span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">Pope Benedict XVI was the first resignation of any pope in over 600 years. The last pope to resign was </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;">Pope Gregory XII. He resigned to bring in a new pope and end the western </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;">Schism. This resignation was done in order to bring peace to an uproar. So, we can say this resignation of Pope Benedict XVI is the very first in all of Christianity. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 21px;">Today, is a major mark in history for all of us. Lets hope the conclave brings a man worthy to be a leader. </span></span><br />

While trying to find more information on Pope Benedict XVI and his papacy I stumbled across a really great interactive HTML that was a perfect example to what Mr. Cameron was teaching us in class. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here is a link to that interactive. <br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Yesterday our classes assignment was to create our first podcast. We had to write a review on a current movie, song, or artist. We learned how to use garageband and edit our reviews. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />
To me, this was a really exciting project. I think of the great journalists like Edward R. Murrow who brought the news to American homes back in the 1940s through the 1960s and how influential his voice was. Words are a powerful thing but spoken words give emotion and a greater influence. Of course, my little review was very simple but it was great practice. I noticed a few things about myself while working on this assignment. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I need to speak up</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I need to have a more inviting voice</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I need to believe in my words</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I need to have a more smooth discussion with the listener</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">All these things take good practice and confidence. Something I will work on over time and to be honest, I don't think I did too bad! I wrote and discussed a review of Stevie Ray Vaughn. One of the greatest blues artists of all time. I discovered his music recently after giving my uncle one of his tribute albums for Christmas. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I heard some of the music and had to buy another copy for myself. I fell in love with the album and with Stevie Ray. His music is amazing. I couldn't think of a better person to review. I narrowed down the songs I heard from him and picked one I felt gave the best of his gift of electric slide guitar, something he trademarked in the Blue's industry. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />
The song is called <i>Slide Thing. </i>Its about 3 minutes long and he doesn't sing, just plays guitar. It is so great and because it is a live performance it makes the song magical. You almost think for 3 minutes that you are actually there watching him play. Then, when you realize you aren't, you wish you were. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now if you're a little curious to hear the song, click the video and listen! I definitely think it is worth 3:04 minutes of your time. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/P0ILU1Zf-qs?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;"><b>CHAPTER 8 DIGITAL AUDIO </b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Chapter 8 discusses what we did on tuesday but of course, in more depth. Podcasts are the more current forms of digital audio recording but there are many forms. Some key phrases to look for in chapter 8 are...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Uncompressed audio format</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Compressed audio format</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Which are simply different forms of audio formatting that are used in operating systems. These terms are not necessarily important to note and remember but if you are a journalist, especially a multimedia one, the terms might be used quite frequently. Its always good to know what you are talking about when trying to edit audio. It tends to make things a bit easier...</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There are different types of what the book calls "bit depth" which determines the quality of your audio files and it differentiates the differences by calling them different terms. Thornburg uses a great analogy to explain the quality he is discussing. He says its like </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">"dipping a teaspoon and a ladle into a pot of soup at the same amount. The teaspoon will get only a little bit but a ladle, dipped at the same level will carry a larger amount." </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">(<i>Producing Online News and Digital Skills by Ryan M. Thornburg Pg. 213) </i></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There are different kinds of microphones that are discussed in chapter 8. I wont go into too much detail because although the terminology is broken down, I think we can all agree we know what a microphone does and its purposes. The more expensive, the better quality. And of course it also depends on what kind of sounds you want to pick up. So basically, microphones are a huge asset to the audio world, for obvious reasons. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Its comforting to know my first time on a microphone using podcast I was not the only person to get nervous about speaking into a microphone. Most people get nervous for the first time and if you are interviewing someone its always good to try and ease them into feeling comfortable speaking clearly into it. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Digital Audio recording is a great outlet for Multimedia reporting and it is something I can be interested in. I feel that it all takes practice and reading chapter 8 in our books did help me give a better idea of what exactly I'm doing and how to do it. Although most of this can be self taught, and probably should be. Technology is always changing and always updating itself, so even though this book is quite recent, I'm sure there are even better upgrades to it that were made months, maybe even weeks after its release. So, always update yourself with the newest information and technology to better give yourself the upper hand as a journalist. Getting the news out there is the most important thing and the overall point of the subject. Digital audio is just a great way to do it. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hi friends and classmates I wanted to share a great short article I read on the Los Angeles Times website. </span><a href="http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-pn-manning-us-obsessed-killing-opponents-20130228,0,7254841.story"><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Bradly Manning exposing military secrets on wikiLeaks</span></a><span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is breaking news just reported this morning at 9:39am by Richard A. Serrano and you can follow political news from the Los Angeles Times <span class="screen-name"><s><span style="color: #797979;">@</span></s>PoliticsNowLAT</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="screen-name"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="screen-name">This short article was a quick read that is packed with information that the reader needs. When you look on any online news source under the "breaking news" section almost all of those articles are going to have tid bits of information because they just got it. So, it wont have everything you may want to know right away but it will give you the information you are looking for. More to come on this article if you follow the LA Times regularly. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="screen-name"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="screen-name">While reading this article I noticed key notes to reconginze. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">All of these I learned in class and mostly in the book my class and I are required to read. It is a great book that is up to date and tells you what is currently going on in Multimedia Reporting. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE ARTICLE</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Bradly Manning is a low-level intellegence analysis stationed in Bagdad when he leaked the information to WikiLeaks. In case some of you do not know what WikiLeaks is, it is a website detecated to giving people a safe way to bring classified information to their Journalists to expose the truth in government secrets. A webpage that should definitly be visited by young Journalists. A short cut to the webiste can be found by clicking <strong><a href="http://wikileaks.org/">HERE</a></strong></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"><b>UPDATE 3.4.13 </b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">I apologize for the delay in posting this blog. Instead of deleted what I previously wrote I am going to add onto it. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">Any news source around the country and perhaps the world will have information regarding Bradley Manning. To save the time an effort I suggest you use your local news source for information. If you would like to know more about Bradley Manning and his life up to today, he has a website dedicated to freeing him.<u style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"> </u><a href="http://www.bradleymanning.org/" style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;">Free Bradley Manning dot org</a> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">According to the L.A Times Bradley Manning will be facing a 20 year sentence and a dishonorable discharge from the U.S Army. His defense team is trying to reduce the 10 additional charges being made against him for "<i>aiding the enemy"</i> and posing a potential threat to American lives. The U.S defense wants to give him a life sentence and will fight for Manning's imprisonment for life and a betrayer of the U.S Military. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">A great example of Multimedia Journalism: Have the readers interact with the news. They ask questions, post opinions, and perhaps shed light on things Journalists may not know yet. Want to find a way to get involved in the Bradley Manning debate??</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Good news! My project is now expanding to something that can be really great. To give you a bit of a refresher, my assignment was to pick places to eat around Cerritos College. Well, I decided to take it to another level by researching every food outlet in Cerritos to eat healthy while maintaining a good budget. With links to Diabetes awareness and put my Piktochart imbedded in the webpage. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I emailed all the instructors in the physical education department to please respond with what their classes were about and perhaps special tips to help maintain a healthy diet for college students. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well, the bad news is only one instructor was kind enough to email me back. The good news is she is on board and wants to help as much as she can! Special thanks to Jeanine Prindle! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">She is the instructor for the Fitness and Wellness class as well as the Stretch and Relaxation classes available at Cerritos. With her help I'm sure I can make a great idea become a reality. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">More updates to come. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I first a foremost want to apologize for the short absent. I am back and ready to talk about all the great things I have done in class and discovered on my own. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">We were assigned to read Chapter 1 in our textbook PRODUCING ONLINE NEWS. It felt a little backwards to start from chapter 1 seeing as we have already read chapters 10 and 11. Although, you can never get enough information and learn more about Journalism. As an amateur and aspiring Journalist I could use all the information and education I can get. The book discusses beats and goals a journalist needs to create a great story. To understand your audience and capture the information that will be most useful and what people really want to know. I don't think anyone has stressed more in my readings then to <i>know your intended audience. </i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Journalism 20 years ago was so different then from what it has become today. Media is vastly different in so many ways. There are no longer 3 news stations that anchors will pick and chose what stories to run and when they should run them. The people control the media's influence. The web has been a leader in the efforts of independent news feed. Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and so many more web outlets have given users a voice. Journalism happens everyday in the homes of millions across the globe. This is now a new major challenge for Journalists today, how to stand out. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Discussion forums have been a great way for people to comment and discuss viewpoints on a variety of subjects ranging from hot button issues to occurrences that are now making new headlines. I feel fortunate to live in an age where information is at my fingertips. Being a Journalist is more to me than exposing a wrong or reporting on daily, breaking, or investigative news. It is about giving people information and giving them what they want to hear and what they deserve to know. With the internet that has been possible and quiet easy to access. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">INTERACTIVE HTML </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This assignment is by far going to be the most challenging. Quite honestly, I do not understand it at all. I have no idea how I am going to put this into webpage form. I understand <i style="font-weight: bold;">what</i> we are suppose to do. I just don't know <i style="font-weight: bold;">how</i> I am going to do it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I surely hope someone will help me. I always thought I knew enough about computers and programs enough to get through college and possibly learn new steps on the way but I didn't know I would be completely illiterate! I will be learning a lot these coming two weeks. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So, lets get to the point. What is the assignment? It is my job to research and find places to eat around Cerritos College both on and off campus. Simple right? Exactly. Too simple. Its boring! I needed to spice things up a bit and give myself a challenge. A week ago we had an assignment for the infographs. My topic was Diabetes. I am going to incorporate that into this assignment. My official title for this assignment is...</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i>HOW TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY DIET ON A BUDGET AT CERRITOS COLLEGE. </i></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">It would appear that "times are tough" but quiet honestly times are <i>always</i> tough as a college student. Whats worse than making sure you studied for your midterm, finished your essays, <i>and</i> make it to class on time?? That oh, by the way, you've gained 5 pounds because all you have time for is to grab chips and a soda at the Elbow Room. By the time you are down with school and work the only place that is open is you're empty refrigerator and Jack n the Box. An apple is not filling and it wont give you the boost you need. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">But what will? Perhaps an apple with peanut butter and a 5 hour energy? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I will be writing a step by step guide to help the college student who wants to try and eat healthy without damaging you're wallet on organic whole foods and vitamin supplements. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Diabetes is alive and threatens our daily lives, some more than others but ultimately it does for everyone. Young people may not be at as high of a risk as people in their late to early 50s but it is still significantly high. Food should be the last worry on our minds. I hope with this project I can help that a little. Just give everyone an easier way to a healthier lifestyle without sacrificing too much. More to come on this!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">AMY GOODMAN & DEMOCRACY NOW!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I understand this blog is suppose to be about Cerritos College Multimedia Journalism but I can't help but sometimes share great things that have come my way. I'm sure you have noticed I talk about Amy Goodman a lot and I do this because she is my role model. To me, she is the epitome of an investigative Journalist and one I would very much like to someday have the pleasure of working with. To those of you who share the same aspirations as I do or if you are simply curious, feel free to watch her interview on AOL dot com. <a href="http://www.blogger.com/%3Cscript%20type='text/javascript'%20src='http://pshared.5min.com/Scripts/PlayerSeed.js?sid=203&amp;width=560&amp;height=345&amp;shuffle=0&amp;playList=517654861'%3E%3C/script%3E">JOURNALISM WITH A HEART</a> </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I know I've already made a blog discussing the piktochart and the best ways to describe its usage out of it, but I did not finish it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This is a simple, short blog today. My piktochart is on Diabetes in the U.S. You can find out more information about diabetes on the two websites I got all of my usful information from <a href="http://www.diabetes.org/">here</a> and <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002194/">here</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">DIABETES,CERRITOS COLLEGE STUDENTS & STAFF</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Diabetes is an American Epidemic and we should all be more aware of it. Anyone is suseptible to Type 2 Diabetes and should always try to live a healthy lifestyle. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'm sure everyone who attends school at Cerritos College is aware of all the food outlets we have available. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Although, a lot of us are new students (such as myself) and we may not know of some great food outlets that are right here on campus and discounts available off campus. Such as STACKED. Which I discussed in an earlier blog. To recieve more information reguarding STACKED please visit my earlier blog <a href="http://meganmelissamultimedia.blogspot.com/2013/02/cerritos-mayor-jim-edwards-student.html">here</a> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">There are some great food outlets here at Cerritos College, although, maybe not the healiest. Stress causes a big percentage of people to eat unhealthy food as a way to outlet their stress. Another great way to relieve that stress and stay healthy is excerise and eating right. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">What exactly do I mean by eating right? Well, chosing what you want to snack on can be a start to a healthier lifestyle. Don't believe in diet? Me either. No need to stress yourself out more by conciously deciding what to eat and drink. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">For example, if I feel like a cup of coffee and a muffin in the morning I eat it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Maybe for a later breakfast when I get home I have boiled eggs and yogart. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hungry for a snack? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The Elbow Room in between the Social Science Building and Liberal Arts is a great way to get a snack on the go or a quick meal inbetween classes. They have plenty of healthy items as well as yummy treats. </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">Another great way to get your daily excerise even if you're at school all day, walking up the stairs and skipping the elevator. Power walking to class! It may sound silly but most of us barely make it in time anyways so we may be already doing it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The last thing students and teachers alike should be worrying about is the amount of sugar they are taking in and worrying about their high blood sugar. That can be a major stress triggar in itself. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Stay happy and healthy everyone! Heres my piktochart on Diabetes. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Today in class I grouped together with three other students to discuss our blogger sites and how they are coming along, ways we can improve our own, and give feedback to others on their strengths and weaknesses. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
The three students that evaluated me were </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Daniel Garcia's </span><a href="http://wrongturnright.blogspot.com/"><b><i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Wrong Turn Right Place</span></i></b></a></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jennifer DeCruz's</span><i><b><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> <a href="http://wander-notlost.blogspot.com/">In Omnia Paratus</a></span></b></i></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Isirdo Perez's </span><a href="http://multimediareportingclass.blogspot.com/"><b><i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Multimedia Reporting</span></i></b></a></li>
</ol>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Each of them have strengths and weaknesses to their blogs. I wont go into detail about their weaknesses but I will point out each of their strengths and ways I should apply these to my blogger. Without hesitation I feel I could improve on my own blogger without their feedback is my own. I have a lot of information on my side bars but have made no effort to fill them in. You can find me on google+ and I have links to find my blogger so it can be easy to access my account. After I spent some time critiquing my blogger and making it better I gave it a good look today and saw that I have no followers besides my classmates who I'm sure don't even look at my blogger. I have no google+ followers and no one has even read any of my blogs. This needs to change if I want to be a true multimedia Journalist. I need to network myself better. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Strengths about my fellow blogger classmates!</span></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-style: italic;">Wrong Turn Right Place </span><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">by Daniel Garcia is very artistic and creative</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really like the layout of his blogger. It can be a little confusing on the dates of when he posted his blogs, but that is a very simple fix and its not <i>that </i>confusing. I like the title of his blogger and the way he came up with it. He has written a little poetry in his blogger which is great, it really shows his artistic side. </span></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><i style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">In Omnia Paratus </i><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">by Jennifer DeCruz is beautifully simple which is very much my style</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Jennifer helped me figure out how to fix the color on my links. They are in black so it is hard to tell where you can find my links if you are just skimming through my blog. She helped me figure out how to make it pop more. I thank her for that! When I first saw her blogger the first day we reviewed our first blog post I copied her style. I love the simple white background with black print. It just makes everything look clean, simple, and professional with a feminine feel to it. She inspired my blog so I must say hers is my favorite. All of her blogs are up to date and she has very nice writing. </span></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><i style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Mulitmedia Reporting </i><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">by Isirdo Perez has a title that is very clear and to the point</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This makes it easy to find a multimedia blogger. It pops right up and as a reader/visitor to the site we know exactly what he is talking about. I like that he uses the simple layout of his blogger which makes everything easy to see. I will admit I do love my look and style but maybe a little color might help mine pop a little bit more. Isirdo has done this. With his simple blue layout it brings enough life to the blogger but still maintains the simplicity and easy access to the links he has provided. </span></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What I'm going to do to better MeganMelissa Multimedia:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Add google+ followers</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I need to make a bigger effort to get on the web and network</span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Research multimedia bloggers on blogger</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Get out there and find great multimedia bloggers and FOLLOW THEM</span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Reach out and comment on their blogs and ask for feedback on mine</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I haven't read anyone's blogger sites and I should start doing that, it will help me connect with everyone in the class in a better, more positive way. </span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Find more multimedia links, read the advice, apply it to mine</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I found the multimedia blog sites on the side of my blogger I did not make a big enough effort to actually read all of the content. I should and I will. </span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Talk to my classmates on blogger, post comments</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Maybe I should start posting discussion boards to help us all get more involved. </span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Start discussions with fellow classmates on blogger</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ask others to comment on my writing and how they are taking my blog posts. Am I doing well, ok? Let me know!</span></div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Get more involved at Cerritos College</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The last bullet point I think will be the biggest challenge for me. I believe I have mentioned I am a bit of an introverted person and I am new to Cerritos and Cerritos College. I need to spread my wings a bit more and perhaps go to a basketball game here and tweet about its wins and losses. Continue to participate in the Brown Bag meetings. Although I did attend the first one I did not say much while in the meeting. When all eyes are on me I get nervous and blush. I need to work on being a better public speaker because it will reflect in my writing. Making a bigger effort to be informed is crucial to a great Journalist. It is required in this class to be more involved at Cerritos College and I have been on the sidelines. Its time to get my feet wet. </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">In Thursday's class we were assigned to make an Infograph using <a href="http://www.piktochart.com/">PIKTOCHART DOT COM</a>. We were given four different subjects to chose from to research about. </span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">California Community College Enrollment</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Diabetes </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Filing Federal Tax Returns</span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I wanted so badly to pick Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches but I thought it would be more professional of me to chose Diabetes. </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Infograph's are a great visual aid to make a point on a particular subject. It tells a story with pictures, statistics, and colors. The concept sounds simple enough and almost elementary, but it has been scientifically proven that people respond to bright colors and attractive things. What better way to get someone's attention than with an inforaph? Its packed with great informative stats and percentages that can a person intrigued. </span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infographic"><b>Wikipedia's</b></a> definition: </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><b>Information graphics</b> or <b>infographics</b> are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly. They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s ability to see patterns and trends.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">All of this information on infographs I'm sure is quite helpful, but the best way to show a great infograph and what exactly it is, is to show you. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">This is a great infograph about infographs! <span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">How to make an xtranormal video and post it on youtube!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyone a film junky? Perhaps an aspiring director, screenwriter, producer, actor, everything that has to do with film? </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.xtranormal.com/">Xtranromal</a> is a website that helps you create your own animated cartoon for fun. It does cost money, not too much but there are free options! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This was one of our assignments in our Multimedia Journalism class at Cerritos College. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Our assignment was to create an animated xtranormal video that had to do with something we were passionate about, with a funny twist. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Xtranormal has lots of helpful ways to create an original story. There are lots of different backdrops to use, characters, voices, background music, themes. The list seems endless! The animated videos are not just cartoons, they are 3D and have so many different character options your video can be different from everyone else's. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The type of video I wanted to use was very simple stick figures with a white paper background. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Don't limit yourself to stick figures though! One video I saw about Super Bowl 47 was very funny. It was the winner of all the class videos. You can watch it here! </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had to think about what I was passionate about. There are a lot of things in life that I am passionate about. My current passion is school and transferring to a university. So, I thought I would make my video about that in a funny way. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Feel free to watch my xtranormal video! I hope you enjoy it. </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To give a brief history of Mayor Edwards biography which you can find <a href="http://www.cerritos.us/GOVERNMENT/city_council/biographies/edwards.php"><i><b>here</b></i></a>, he has been apart of numerous city councils and is currently a "<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">Liaison" for the ABC Unified School District. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">On Thursdays first Brown Bag Meeting at Cerritos College a student read in the Spanish Newspaper that our Mayor Jim Edwards owns his own towing company and people have been getting their cars towed at a very high price by his company within the city of Cerritos and Norwalk. A very big conflict of interest. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">Although I could not find any factual evidence or proof via internet about these claims I am reaching out to my readers to find some. So my statement above is merely here say and I would like to research this subject a bit deeper for purposes of college students on a tight budget. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">What can be worse than getting a $600 fine for parking in the wrong spot whilst racing to class on time because there was not enough parking at Cerritos College? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">I think it is clear to say that most college students are on a very tight budget, myself included. The last thing we need is a fine of that price or even a $40 dollar street sweeping ticket can be hard to pay. Thats not even a full tank of gas! </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><span style="font-size: large;"></span></span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;"><span style="font-size: large;">WHAT IS STACKED? </span></span>
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 19px;">Have no fear fellow students! There are ways to save an extra couple of bucks to help during these tough times. Here are some helpful tips to start saving and get a jump start on your day. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<ul>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Get to school early. I know it sounds simple enough and the last thing any of us want to do is get up even 5 minutes earlier than we have to, but, you can enjoy a warm cup of coffee with a muffin and sit in your car doing homework with a GREAT SPOT. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Become a member of STACKED. I'm sure we all got that email, but if you didn't you should consider becoming a member. Its a restaurant at the Cerritos Mall that you can custom build your meal on an ipad. If you become a Cerritos College member you can get $5 off your meal! With every person that signs up and eats at STACKED the restaurant will donate 5% of their revenue to Cerritos College for funds and scholarships for US! <a href="http://order.stacked.com/affiliates/cerritoscollege"><i><b>Sign up now!</b></i></a> </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Eat healthier. Again, this notion is simple enough and I'm sure a lot of us eat healthy for the most part. Think about this though...A pack of American Spirits is $6.50. A Starbucks with a pastry is about $6.20. Taco Bell's # 7 with a Pepsi is $6.26. A subway sandwich "$5 foot long" is still over $5 if you want chips and a drink with that! That is roughly $25 spent for the day which may not seem like much but if that is an everyday occurrence, you are spending a little under $130.00 in 5 days!! An apple at Henry's costs 80cents. A jog around the neighborhood is free verses the $30 a month membership at 24hour fitness. Think about it!</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Become a Vons club member and you can save at the pump at Chevron every time you fill up! You get points towards your Vons club card. ALL FOR FREE. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">Last but not least, the Long Beach Transit can take you anywhere you need to go with a passport. It is cheap, fast, and easy. No worries about gas prices, oil changes, or parking permits. Get to school on time and save! </span></li>
</ul>
<div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19px;">We all have our own struggles both professionally, personally, and trying to get our education. Lets not get bogged down with Towing Fee's and unnecessary headaches. Perhaps we should ask our mayor what he has or can do to help Cerritos College and its students succeed. More updates on this topic soon to come!</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">U.S INVOLVEMENT IN THE WAR ON DRUGS</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">STUDENTS & CERRITOS COLLEGE</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: x-large;">CHAPTER 11 PRODUCING ONLINE NEWS</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This day is very special to many Americans. To myself? A quiet day to relax while everyone is out watching the Big Game elsewhere. Personally, I hope the 49ers win. And that is my two cents about that. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This morning I read an article about the WAR ON DRUGS and the amount of money the U.S is spending, the amount of troops being deployed, and its goals to stop trafficking in Latin America. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The article was quiet long and detailed giving specific strategies and tactics on fighting these corrupt Drug Lords. According to the <a href="http://bigstory.ap.org/article/us-military-expands-its-drug-war-latin-america">Associated Press</a> & <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/us-military-expands-drug-war-latin-america-145202763.html">Yahoo! News</a> over the past decade has spent 20 billion on battling the WAR ON DRUGS. This number keeps rising and the battles waged on these notoriously violent cartels has only escalated to bloodier attacks on locals and law enforcement. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Three things spoke to me as a reader:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">1. ENGAGING THE AUDIENCE- The paragraphs were short, packed with statistics, and detailed descriptions of the U.S strategies. It reminded me of Mr. Cameron teaching us about shorter sentence structure and leaving out information unnecessary to the reader. If you look at my earlier blogs my paragraphs are quite long. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">2. CHAPTER 11-Responding to the readers. There was only one comment on the Associated Press release of the article today. In Yahoo! News, over 1,700 comments. Maybe there aren't as many American's watching the Super Bowl today. The reporter of this article is Martha Mendoza. You can find her on twitter at <a href="https://twitter.com/mendozamartha">@mendozamartha</a>. Based off the 10 comments I have read on Yahoo! News I, as a reporter, would filter the comments based off negative responses, questions unanswered, and what my readers are looking for. </span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-Most of all these readers find it useless that the U.S is spending so much on what they are calling the FONY WAR ON DRUGS. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-They want to know this money is not being spent on education, employment opportunities, and feeding the homeless. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-They are upset by this article and seem like they are demanding an explanation to these facts presented in front of them. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">HOW I WOULD RESPOND</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-As a reporter I would seek to find those answers and give them helpful links to write letters to their local congress, representatives, and state governments. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-I would find out how much the Obama Administration is spending on enhancing education and Gun Control.</span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">-I would also encourage my readers to contact me with information they feel might help me find those answers. </span></li>
<li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">All of this information I learned from reading CHAPTER 11. It lays out the foundation of a MULTIMEDIA BLOGGER reporting on BREAKING NEWS. What to do when you are faced with a problem where your readers want more and how to go about it. </span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Reading this article rose all these questions and I, personally would like some questions answered. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">So, what does this have to do with CERRITOS COLLEGE AND COLLEGE STUDENTS? </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Cerritos College is fortunate to still have a lot of departments not shut down and still maintain its stability. </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Long Beach City College has shut down their nursing, music, and (I believe) journalism departments. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">With 20 billion spent in gun, training, and weapon specialization to combat these Drug Cartels and our local Colleges in California being threaten to not have the opportunity to have summer school is crazy. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I think we can all agree that what is going on in Latin America is horrible and should be stopped. I do not think anyone would disagree that these countries do need help and training to combat this horrific terror they endure everyday. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">With that said, I do firmly believe and think all my readers would as well that the best way to combat street violence, drug trafficking, bloody wars, and drug abuse is to be educated about its effects. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">COMBAT VIOLENCE IS TO LEARN ABOUT IT. Educate our young Americans to be a better, stronger, nation. The only way to do that is to make it easier for us College Students to stay in school and have the resources we need to stay in and finnish. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04319594445598106922noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4606697864912212690.post-25954552757438511962013-01-30T18:46:00.001-08:002013-01-30T18:46:37.624-08:00Chapter 11 and Brown Bag Meeting<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; font-size: large;">JOURNALISM AS CONVERSATION: ENCOURAGING THE AUDIENCE</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is exceedingly clear that Journalism today is drastically different than it was 50 years ago. It is more than just getting a newspaper on your door step from the paper boy every morning. It is up close, personal, breaking, and everyone is in the now. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Thanks to the internet we can get information instantly and find updates quicker than ever before. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The challenge Journalists are faced with everyday is understanding their audience. Once a reporter has built a mutual respect from an audience he/she needs to make sure the readers are being heard and their needs are met. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In <i style="font-size: x-large;">PRODUCING ONLINE NEWS </i>Chapter 11 discusses <b>building a relationship with a Journalists audience.</b> The book encourages bloggers to read and respond to comments left by visitors. What I found most interesting in the chapter was how to respond to vulgar comments left by users and how to build a respectful site and fewer disrespectful comments. Specific guidelines should be listed somewhere in the blog for people to easily access. Also, to politely remove comments that are not within your blog guidelines and post a note saying you removed it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Keep your private life separate from work life. </b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><b>Family and friends vs. Work and Followers</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If a Journalist wants a private Facebook or Twitter account for friends and family that is always encouraged. On a personal level, I think it is best to still act professional and keep your opinions to yourself or at least offline <i>even</i> still with friends and family. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is not like Las Vegas. What happens on the internet, stays on the internet. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The book uses a great example. In 2009 ABC News Political Reporter Terry Moran tweeted a negative comment about President Obama about Kanye West's outburst at the VMA's directed towards Taylor Swifts win. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I could not say this any better than what the book says so I will quote it. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"<i>Moran did two things he probably would not have done on any of his television reports: he had disclosed an off-the-record comment by Obama and he injected his personal opinion about the behavior of the president. Moran removed the posting later the same day, and ABC News issued an apology to the White House for "prematurely" tweeting Obama's comments."</i> -Producing Online News Digital Skills, and better Stories. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It is refreshing to know that even a reporter of that status still makes big mistakes that could have possibly cost him his reputation. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We all need to remember going into Journalism that our opinions may matter but how we act and handle ourselves is so much more important. Grace and dignity is a lesson we all try to live by in our lives and especially as a reporter it is something we practice everyday. We are human too! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">BROWN BAG MEETING JANUARY 31ST @ 11AM</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have mentioned this before in my earlier posts that this is only my second semester at Cerritos College. Well, this is only my first full year in Long Beach. I am originally from San Diego North County. So, meeting new people is intimidating for me because I tend to be quite the introvert. After my first class with Mr.Cameron I got very excited to know just how great the Journalism program is here at Cerritos College. Can't wait to meet fellow Journalists. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I will pack my lunch and and be there tomorrow! </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04319594445598106922noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4606697864912212690.post-61179722249569679172013-01-29T21:50:00.002-08:002013-01-29T21:50:12.375-08:00Gun Control in California<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"><b>There are 313,914,040 living in the United States.</b> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">300 Million citizens own an assault weapon.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: x-large;"> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">67% of those people own a a firearm for protection against crime.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">These statistics can be found on <a href="http://www.statisticbrain.com/national-rifle-association-nra-statistics/">statistic brain</a> dot com. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">What does that say for us Californians? Well, there are exactly </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #222222; font-size: x-small; line-height: 16px;"><em style="color: black; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-weight: bold;">38,041,430 </em><em style="color: black; font-size: medium; font-style: normal;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;">of us which makes us the 2nd behind Texas to be the state that owns the most guns. </span></em></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Mr. Cameron gave us an assignment to work on using the website Storify. (You should visit the page <a href="http://storify.com/">here</a>)</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">At first glance of this I was not sure how it worked and if I would do the project the way he wanted it done. What I learned is how great Storify is. I worked with Daniel Noah and Alex Capilla to create our first story on Storify. I encourage you to take a look at our story, we worked very hard on it. You can click the link at the bottom of the page. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">We discussed California's reactions to the Newtown incident and the legislation, along with the communities reactions on stricter gun laws preventing tragedies in school shootings. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">From the information I gathered I came to the conclusion that us Californians are divided on the issue. The laws on our gun ownership is the most strict in the entire U.S! Yet, we are one of six states that allows concealed weapons on school campuses. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The NRA wants to arm two teachers in every school with a concealed weapon and police to have assault/semi automatic weapons on them at all times. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Daniel, Alex, and I had a discussion after our gathered research and analysis of our Storify story. We agreed putting our honest opinions on gun control in a brief conclusion would be an ideal way to end our blog. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Daniel is very divided on the subject. He waited for myself and Alex to speak before he gave his opinion. I felt this is a smart journalistic tactic because it shows that he wants to know about his peers views and feelings in order to gather information necessary to make his own conclusion. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Alex made a very intelligent, well informed, thought out opinion on his views towards gun control. His family own gun(s) and his father taught him how to use it properly and safely. He said he would feel more safe if he was able to carry a gun on him. No one should have to go through being threatened with a knife, gun, or any type of weapon. For Alex, his personal experiences made his feelings towards gun control in favor of more strict laws on the purchase of guns. He feels that people should be evaluated before they are able to make a purchase, although California already has laws for that he feels it should be stressed more. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">As for myself, I live with my Aunt and Uncle who have a handgun. My Aunt feels safer knowing its there and my Uncle feels it is necessary to be prepared for the worse. My other Uncle owns 6 guns and or rifles. My father was a member of the NRA and often goes hunting using his rifles. I come from an all American gun happy family. I believe in our United States Constitution's Second Amendments right to Bear Arms. That right will never be taken away. So, stricter gun control in order to protect our children from outbursts of gun violence in schools from a person suffering from mental instability? I say yes. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">A better question to ask me would be: Would you feel safer knowing there are semi automatic weapons on Cerritos College Campus? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">My answer would be: No</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Why?</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This has been my second semester here at Cerritos College. I have had classes that range from 6:30am to 9:00pm at night. I am there all hours of the day and I have never seen a Police officer get out of his or her car parked by the big back parking lot. I see them during the day but never at night. I have never seen them patrolling or even interacting with students or visitors. What would make me feel safer at my school is knowing my officers care about the students they have vowed to protect. A post perhaps of the sharif in charge of the school's police? I cannot find a link to our police department page, only an emergency text alert with their phone number at the bottom. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I have no doubt Cerritos Police Department is armed and has more than enough training to act in a hostile situation. If I was being attacked I would hope my schools police would act to protect me rather than run to their safe to grab a semi automatic rifle. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Are more guns the answer? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Should we be more aware of our surroundings and more informed on self defense tactics? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I will let you answer that for yourself. </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
